Epically Masked is an attempt to inspire people to wear face coverings in the slowing of the spread of Covid 19 by depicting the epic heroic nature of everyday people. I have supported myself for many years with the production of commercial imagery and have always been fascinated by this form of propaganda in the support and development of ideology. It is in the study and use of the portrait form of image that I investigate these ideas. In my current ongoing series Epically Masked I am exploring the idea of subversive propaganda in the support of public good. This asks a question of the seriously divergent ideologies that have developed within our midwestern American culture. Why can’t some see the heroic nature of simply wearing a piece of fabric over their nose and mouth?
